Why Your VPS May Take Longer to Provision

Short answer

Provisioning is automated but not instant. After payment, VPSGrid queues deployment (OS template, disk, networking, validation, credentials). This usually completes in minutes, but payment review, custom options, or Windows first-boot tasks can add time.

Overview

This article explains why provisioning takes time and what happens in the background. Full workflow: Understanding the VPS Provisioning Process. If you believe provisioning is genuinely stuck, see the decision table below — you may need a support ticket after reasonable wait.

What happens after you pay

  1. Invoice marked Paid — provisioning starts after successful payment authorization
  2. Job queued — your VPS is scheduled on the virtualization platform
  3. Template deploy — OS image cloned/created, disk allocated, cloud-init/password applied
  4. Networking — primary IPv4 assigned and attached to the VM
  5. Validation — automated checks confirm the deployment is healthy
  6. Active + welcome email — service shows Active; credentials sent — How to Read Your VPSGrid Welcome Email

Why it is not instant

  • KVM template work — cloning disk and configuring the VM takes longer than flipping a shared-hosting switch
  • Configurable options — extra RAM/disk/IP choices add steps to the build
  • Windows first boot — Windows Server initial setup often takes longer than Linux
  • Deployment validation — VPSGrid waits for checks to pass before marking the service ready
  • Email delivery — welcome mail sends after the VPS is ready, not at checkout

Factors that commonly add delay

FactorEffect
Payment pending / fraud reviewProvisioning waits until invoice is truly Paid
Peak order volumeQueue may lengthen temporarily
Custom VPS / large disk optionsMore resources to allocate
Windows vs Linux templateWindows often slower on first boot
Wrong/spam-filtered emailYou may not see credentials even when Active — check client area

Typical timing expectations

Many orders finish within a few minutes after payment, but VPSGrid does not guarantee a fixed minute-level SLA in self-service documentation. A short wait is normal.

  • 0–15 minutes after Paid: usually still provisioning — refresh Services → My Services
  • 15–30 minutes: uncommon but possible during reviews or heavy load — verify payment and email
  • Beyond ~30 minutes with Paid invoice and still Pending: open a support ticket with order ID and service ID

What you can do while waiting

  1. Confirm invoice status is Paid — How to Pay an Invoice
  2. Refresh the client area; avoid placing duplicate orders
  3. Check spam/junk for provisioning or welcome emails
  4. Verify account email under profile settings

Normal delay vs stuck provisioning

SituationUsually normal?
Just paid, status PendingYes — wait and refresh
Invoice unpaid / failed cardExpected — complete payment first
Paid + Pending >30 minutesInvestigate — open ticket
Active but no welcome emailCheck spam; copy credentials from service page
Active but blank primary IPTicket with service ID

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I order again if it is slow?

No — duplicate orders can double-charge. Wait, verify payment, then ticket if Paid + Pending persists.

Does provisioning start before payment clears?

Generally no. The invoice must reach Paid status first.

Where do I see progress?

Client area service status and emails — there is usually not a minute-by-minute progress bar.
