Article 12.4 — Windows Server Licensing — BYOL Requirement

Short answer

VPSGrid Windows Server VPS plans do not include a Microsoft Windows Server license. You must use a valid Bring Your Own License (BYOL) model — supply, activate, and remain compliant with your own license.

Overview

This article states the BYOL requirement for Windows Server on VPSGrid. It is a licensing policy article, not a Remote Desktop (RDP) connection guide.

BYOL requirement

Windows VPS plans are provided under a Bring Your Own License (BYOL) model. VPSGrid provides the virtual server and operating system template only. Customers are responsible for providing, activating, and complying with their own valid Microsoft Windows license.

Why BYOL matters before you order

  • The Windows VPS price covers the virtual machine (CPU, RAM, disk, network, and template), not a Microsoft license entitlement
  • You should already have (or plan to obtain) a suitable Windows Server license before deploying production workloads
  • Store pages and builders may label Windows plans as Windows (BYOL) for the same reason

Common license categories (high level)

Volume Licensing (VL)Business multi-server useCloud/mobility rights may depend on Software Assurance and product terms

VPSGrid support cannot choose, procure, or validate a Microsoft license for you. For binding compliance advice, use Microsoft documentation or a licensing specialist.

What you still get from VPSGrid

  • KVM Windows Server template with Administrator access
  • Primary IP, power controls, and billing in the client area
  • RDP as the normal remote administration method (separate from licensing)
