Article 5.5 — Windows VPS — Licensing Requirements

Short answer

VPSGrid Windows VPS plans use a Bring Your Own License (BYOL) model. The virtual server and Windows template are provided; you must supply, activate, and remain compliant with a valid Microsoft Windows Server license. A Windows license is not included in the VPS price.

Overview

This article explains Windows licensing expectations for VPSGrid Windows VPS products (including Spark / Flame / Blaze Windows Server plans and Custom VPS with Windows). It is about licensing, not Remote Desktop connection steps.

Official policy

Windows VPS plans are provided under a Bring Your Own License (BYOL) model. VPSGrid provides the virtual server and operating system template only. Customers are responsible for providing, activating, and complying with their own valid Microsoft Windows license.

What VPSGrid provides

  • KVM virtual machine with Administrator access
  • A Windows Server template suitable for remote administration (RDP)
  • Primary IP, power controls, and billing

What you must provide

  • A valid Microsoft Windows Server license that permits your use case on a cloud/VPS host
  • Activation / compliance steps inside the guest OS
  • Any additional Microsoft licensing your workload needs (for example RDS CALs), if applicable

Common license categories customers ask about

  • Retail / purchase licenses — often intended for a single server you control; confirm cloud/VPS eligibility with Microsoft terms for your SKU
  • Volume Licensing (VL) — business agreements; cloud/mobility rights may depend on Software Assurance and product terms
  • MSDN / Visual Studio subscriber licenses — typically limited to development/test; not for production workloads
  • SPLA — service-provider licensing; generally for hosts, not end-customer BYOL on VPSGrid

VPSGrid support cannot choose or validate a Microsoft license for you. For binding compliance advice, use Microsoft documentation or a licensing specialist.

Before you order

  1. Open the Windows VPS store and read the plan notes
  2. Confirm you already have (or will obtain) a suitable Windows Server license
  3. After provisioning, activate Windows with your key and keep proof of licensing for audits

Important notes

  • BYOL status is also shown in product labeling such as Windows (BYOL) on plan advisors and builders
  • RDP access is how you administer the server; RDP availability does not mean a Windows license is included
  • Current plan specs are on vpsgrid.net/windows-vps-hosting and the Windows store — this article does not publish pricing

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a Windows Server license included with my VPS?

No. VPSGrid Windows VPS plans are BYOL. You must provide your own valid license.

Can support activate Windows for me?

No. Activation and license compliance are customer responsibilities on unmanaged Windows VPS plans.

Where do I connect after the VPS is ready?

Use Remote Desktop (RDP). See the RDP connection guide after you have licensing and login details ready.
