How to Connect to Your Windows VPS from iPhone or Android

0 found helpful

Short answer

You can connect to a VPSGrid Windows VPS from an iPhone, iPad, or Android phone using Microsoft’s official Windows App (formerly Remote Desktop on mobile). Enter your VPS public IP and sign in as Administrator with your Windows VPS password.

What you need

  • An active VPSGrid Windows VPS (Spark, Flame, or Blaze Windows)
  • The VPS public IP address
  • Windows username: Administrator
  • Your Windows VPS password
  • Microsoft Windows App from the App Store (iPhone/iPad) or Google Play (Android)

Find your IP and service details in the Client AreaServicesMy Services → your Windows VPS. If you need to set or reset the Windows password, use How to Reset Your VPS Password.

By default, Remote Desktop uses TCP port 3389 on the public IP. You normally connect directly to that IP — no VPN is required for a standard VPSGrid Windows VPS.

Install Microsoft Windows App

  • iPhone / iPad: Install Windows App Mobile (listed as Windows App; previously Remote Desktop) from the Apple App Store — publisher Microsoft Corporation.
  • Android: Install Windows App from Google Play — publisher Microsoft Corporation.

Do not use unofficial third-party RDP apps for this guide.

Connect from iPhone or iPad

  1. Open Windows App.
  2. Tap the plus (+) icon and select PC connection.
  3. In PC name, enter your VPS public IP address (digits only, for example 203.0.113.10 — do not add http://). If you changed the RDP port, you can use IP:port (for example 203.0.113.10:3389).
  4. Under User account, choose Ask when required, or Add user account and save Administrator with your password if you prefer.
  5. Optional: set a Friendly name such as “VPSGrid Windows”.
  6. Tap Save.
  7. On the Devices list, open the saved PC and connect. Enter Administrator and your password when prompted.

Connect from Android

  1. Open Windows App.
  2. Tap the plus (+) icon and select PC connection.
  3. In PC name, enter your VPS public IP (or IP:port if you use a non-default RDP port).
  4. Optionally add a user account for Administrator, or leave credentials to be requested when you connect.
  5. Optionally set a friendly display name, then tap Save.
  6. On the Devices tab, tap the PC to connect. Enter Administrator and your Windows password when asked.
  7. If prompted to confirm you trust the remote PC before connecting, verify the IP is yours, then continue with Connect.

Login credentials

  • PC / host: your VPS public IP from the Client Area
  • Username: Administrator
  • Password: your Windows VPS password (not your Client Area login password)

To change a forgotten Windows password from the Client Area, see How to Reset Your VPS Password.

First connection and certificate prompts

On the first connection, the Microsoft client may warn that the remote PC’s identity certificate does not match the name or IP you entered. That is common when connecting by public IP.

  • Confirm you typed your VPS IP from the Client Area — not another address.
  • Only continue if that check is correct.
  • Do not ignore warnings for connections you did not intend to make, and do not turn off security validation as a workaround.

Using Windows on a phone

Once connected, use the app’s on-screen controls for keyboard input, touch/mouse interaction, and zoom or pan as needed. End the session with the app’s disconnect / close session control when you are finished. Mobile RDP is useful for quick tasks; a laptop or desktop is usually better for long admin sessions.

Troubleshooting

  • VPS not active: In the Client Area, confirm the service is Active and start or reboot if needed.
  • Wrong IP: Copy the primary IP from the service page. Do not use a domain unless DNS already points to that IP.
  • Wrong password: Reset via How to Reset Your VPS Password, then try again as Administrator.
  • Timeout / cannot connect: Confirm the VPS is running, wait a few minutes after reboot, and retry. For deeper RDP diagnosis (firewall, port 3389, services), use How to Troubleshoot RDP Connection Issues.

If you still cannot connect, open a support ticket with your service ID, primary IP, and the exact error message. Do not reinstall the OS as a first step.

Security tips

  • Use a strong, unique Windows password.
  • Avoid saving Administrator credentials on a shared or unlocked phone.
  • Keep your phone locked and the Microsoft app updated from the official store.
